Children learn honesty by hearing it explained, seeing it practiced, and feeling safe when they tell the truth. Try these four ideas.
1. Start with a verse
“Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, but those who do the truth are his delight.” (Proverbs 12:22, adapted from the public-domain World English Bible, with “Yahweh” shown as “the LORD”)
Ask: why do you think God cares about the truth?
2. Make truth safe
When your child tells you something hard, thank them first, then talk about what to do next.
3. Use a story

4. Notice honesty when you see it
“I saw you tell the truth, even when it was hard. I am proud of you.”
Talk about it: What is hard about telling the truth? How can we help each other be honest?
